Are you contemplating retirement but don’t know if you are ready?
Are you concerned about how to spend your new-found free time without becoming a “couch-potato”?
Are you worried about how retirement will change your relationship with your spouse?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, I can help with this important life transition.
Retirement is something most of us look forward to, but are concerned with whether this now means we have gotten OLD. We may be worried about finances, healthcare, wills and trusts. We may want to continue to feel challenged and useful.
Retirement does not have to mean just sitting around discussing your aches and pains with your friends. There are many opportunities to continue to contribute to your profession, community, and personal growth. When I “retired” from full time work five years ago, I retained a small private practice to continue to use my skills but to also give me time to get back to some of the activities I used to love. For me, that has been tap dancing and travel. For some, retirement is an opportunity to learn something new, such as golf, jewelry making, astrology, or what have you. You can put your experience to use as a consultant, mentor or volunteer. You can write the novel you always dreamed of.
I have found that adjusting to retirement can take anywhere from 6 months to a year. During this adjustment time, new issues may arise between spouses, often about time together vs. individual activities. This is a time when couples counseling can be very helpful.
If you are considering retirement and have already retired and are having adjustment concerns,, I can help. Please contact me for a free phone consultation.
